First-Year Business Photography Competition – Terms and Conditions
1. The promoter
The promoter is Alan McAleavey Photography, a sole-trader photography business based in Wirral.

2. Competition dates
Applications open on Monday 3 August 2026.
Applications close at 8pm on Sunday 30 August 2026.
Applications received after the closing time will not be considered.
The successful business will be contacted during the first week of September 2026. The photography shoot will take place during September 2026 on a date agreed between the winner and Alan McAleavey Photography.
3. Who can apply
The competition is open to businesses that:

Are based in Wirral
-
Have been trading for less than 12 months on the date of application

Are independently funded
-
Are not owned by a larger company or supported by significant outside investment

Are available for a photography shoot in Wirral during September 2026
The person completing the application must be aged 18 or over and authorised to apply on behalf of the business.
Employees, immediate family members or anyone professionally involved in running the competition may not enter.
4. How to enter
Entry is free and no purchase is necessary.
Applications must be submitted using the application form on the Alan McAleavey Photography website before the closing date.
Only one application may be submitted per business.
Applicants must provide accurate information and answer the required questions. Incomplete applications or applications from businesses that do not meet the eligibility requirements may not be considered.
5. The prize
One eligible business will receive:

A mini photography shoot during September 2026

One professionally edited headshot
-
Four professionally edited branding photographs
-
High-resolution files suitable for print
-
Web-ready files suitable for websites and social media
-
Permission to use the finished photographs for the winner’s website, social media, marketing and public relations
The shoot will take place at a mutually agreed location within Wirral.
The prize is non-transferable and there is no cash alternative. Additional photography, images, travel or services are not included unless agreed separately in writing.
The winner is responsible for arranging access to the agreed location and obtaining any permissions needed for photography to take place there.
6. How the winner will be selected
This is a judged competition and not a random prize draw.
Eligible applications will be considered according to:

The circumstances and stage of the business
-
How professional photography would benefit the business
-
How the applicant plans to use the photographs
-
The overall strength and suitability of the application
The judging panel will include at least one competent and independent judge. The full name of the independent judge will be made available on request.
The judges’ decision will be final. Feedback may not be available for every application.
7. Contacting the winner
The successful applicant will be contacted using the email address or telephone number provided in the application.
Reasonable attempts will be made to contact the winner. If the winner cannot be contacted, does not meet the eligibility requirements or is unable to complete the shoot during September 2026, another eligible applicant may be selected.
Applicants who are not selected may also receive an email confirming that the competition has concluded.
8. Announcing the winner
Alan McAleavey Photography intends to announce the winning business through its website, email communications and social media.
The announcement may include the business name, the owner’s first name and the general area in which the business is based.
Applicants may object to this information being published or ask for the amount of information published to be reduced. Any objection should be emailed to alan.mcaleavey.photography@gmail.com.
Information may still be provided privately to the Advertising Standards Authority where required to demonstrate that the prize was awarded correctly.
9. Photography and publicity
The winner may be invited to provide a short comment about the business and the experience of taking part.
Any use of the finished photographs by Alan McAleavey Photography for its website, portfolio, social media or other marketing will be discussed with the winner separately. Agreeing to this additional use is not a condition of entering or winning.
10. Personal information
Personal information supplied through the application form will be used to administer the competition, assess applications and contact applicants about the result.
Competition entry does not automatically subscribe an applicant to marketing emails. Marketing communications will only be sent where the applicant has separately chosen to receive them.
Applicant information will not be supplied to competition-support partners for their own marketing without separate permission.

11. Disqualification
Alan McAleavey Photography may reject an application where there are reasonable grounds to believe that:

The information supplied is inaccurate or misleading

The applicant does not meet the eligibility requirements
-
More than one entry has been submitted for the same business
-
The application has been submitted using dishonest or inappropriate methods
-
The applicant has acted in a way that undermines the fair running of the competition
The prize will not be withheld for reasons that were not included in these terms.
12. Changes or cancellation
Alan McAleavey Photography will not normally change the closing date, eligibility requirements or prize after the competition has opened.
Changes will only be made where unavoidable circumstances outside reasonable control make them necessary. Any material change will be communicated clearly and will not be used to disadvantage applicants unfairly.
If the advertised prize cannot be provided, a reasonable equivalent will be offered where possible.
13. Website and technical problems
Alan McAleavey Photography is not responsible for applications that are lost, delayed or not received because of internet, website, email or technical problems outside its reasonable control.
Applicants are responsible for checking that their form has been submitted successfully and that they have received the confirmation email.
14. Social media platforms
This competition is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or any other social media platform used to promote it.
Applicants provide their information to Alan McAleavey Photography and not to those social media platforms.
15. Governing law
These terms and conditions are governed by the law of England and Wales.
Any dispute will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
16. Acceptance of the terms
By submitting an application, the applicant confirms that they have read and accepted these terms and conditions.
